Home to countless different breweries, our home state Michigan is known for the great lakes, great people, and great beverages
While there are many states known for their beers and ciders, Michigan is widely regarded as one of the best states for it. Home to over 350 different breweries, there is a diverse variety of different breweries all with their own unique way of business. Today we are going to be talking about what makes the great lakes state such a great beer state too. These are some of our favorite Michigan breweries, but these are just the start of a long list!
Southeast Michigan
Southeast Michigan is the most populated part of Michigan with Detroit and the cities that surround it. There are a lot of amazing breweries and fun brewery related entertainment in the greater Detroit area. In addition to amazing breweries Detroit offers some of the best entertainment in the state with things like events at Little Caesars Arena, Greektown, Huntington Place, and much more. These are some of our favorite breweries to visit when were around Detroit.
Atwater Brewery
What was once a small local brewery is now one of the largest based out of Detroit. Atwater brewery was founded in 1997 and has remained in Detroit ever since then. Atwater brewery has a location in Downtown where you can get food and drinks with rooftops views of the Detroit River. Atwater also does special events where you can join in for things like rooftop yoga. If you are in Southeast Michigan, Atwater is a great spot to check out.

Jolly Pumpkin Brewery
What originally started in Ann Arbor has quickly expanded to have locations all over Michigan. Every location has something special to offer with great food and beverages and their own unique feel. At many of the locations, they will have special events such as live music for guests to come and enjoy. Not only is Jolly Pumpkin known for their craft beers, but they have some of the best Pizza around!

Royal Oak Brewery
Royal Oak Brewery is Oakland County’s oldest brewpub and has been serving amazing beverages since 1995. Not only do they serve a rotating menu of 7-9 fresh beers, wine, and cocktails but they serve some of the best food in Royal Oak too! This spot is a staple to many Royal Oak locals for a good reason and one to check out if you are in the area.

Northern Michigan
Northern Michigan is a popular spot in both the summertime and the wintertime with all the fun activities close by. Some of the most popular cities in Northern Michigan are Traverse City, Petosky, Cadillac, and Charlevoix with great entertainment, food, drinks, and shops to visit. These are some of our favorite spots to visit when we are spending time in Northern Michigan!
Stormcloud Brewery
Stormcloud Brewery is a popular spot in Frankfort to come have a beer, eat some good food, and hangout with friends and family. Stormcloud Brewery opened for business in 2013 and since then have been steadily increasing in popularity. Recently, they launched a line of craft beers for retail to be sold all over Michigan, so you don’t have to drive to Frankfurt to enjoy one of their beverages. In addition to good food and drinks, Stormcloud brewing has fun activities such as their unique Stormcloud Curling Club where you can learn to curl or participate in events!

Short’s Brewing Company
A popular Michigan Brewery known around the Midwest is Short’s Brewing Company who has been brewing high-quality craft beers since 2002. If you are from the Midwest, you may recognize their beers as they are sold throughout the entire region in many stores. Short’s is located in Bellaire, Michigan where you can stop in for fun tasting experiences and a full food menu of delicious choices. If beer isn’t your thing Short’s still has plenty to offer with other beverages like cider, wine, and cocktails. Short’s has a great environment with fun activities such as live music, yoga, and painting! Whether or not you are already a fan of Short’s, you’ll have a great time at their Bellaire Brew Pub.

Farm Club
One of the most unique breweries in Northern Michigan is the newer Farm Club. Farm Club is a farm, brewery, restaurant, bakery, and marketplace where you can enjoy fresh farm-to-table food and drinks. What makes Farm Club unique is that they use the ingredients grown fresh on their farm to make their constantly rotating dishes and craft beverages. They offer some of the most unique craft beers in Northern Michigan brewed by Corey Valdez a Traverse City area local. Everything that Farm Club has to offer is truly top-notch and should be on your radar to try. Farm Club is truly a unique experience that does not disappoint.

Southwest Michigan
Some of the most well-known breweries in Michigan are in the Southwest corner of the state, but this isn’t all the area has to offer. The close proximity to Lake Michigan provides beautiful views of the lake over towering sand dunes and a lot of fun outdoor adventures. Many of Michigan’s residents call this region of the state home in popular cities like Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, South Haven, and St. Joseph. Bell’s Brewery
Located in Kalamazoo Bell’s is one of the best known and highest rated breweries in Michigan. What once started as a homebrew store in the early 1980’s has turned into so much more with the brand recognizable around the country. Bell’s has a downtown Kalamazoo location where you can visit their general store, stop in at the Eccentric Café, and even get a tour of the facilities. The Eccentric Café has tasting options, live events, and great food to enjoy while you visit. Bell’s is a must-visit brewery for anyone who is into craft beers and fun times!

Founders Brewery
Another well-known and highly rated brewery in the Southwest corner of Michigan is Founders Brewery. Located in Grand Rapids, Founders has been around since 1997 brewing beer that quickly became a staple of Michigan. You can’t talk about craft beer in Southwest Michigan without talking about Founder’s. If you are a fan of craft beer, you probably know who Founders is. Founders has locations in Detroit as well, but their roots are in Grand Rapids. You can visit the Founders Brewery and learn more about the rich history of the company, check out the taproom, and join in on fun events like Trivia Night. A visit to Founder’s Brewery is always a good time when you’re in Grand Rapids.

Saugatuck Brewing Company
If you are looking for a spot to unwind after a beach day, it doesn’t get much better than heading to Saugatuck Brewing Company. Saugatuck Brewing Company started in 2005 and since then have opened locations in Saugatuck and Kalamazoo. Saugatuck Brewing Company has a variety of unique craft beers and delicious food dishes that’ll satisfy everyone. This is a brewery to add to your list to check out if you haven’t already!
